Thank you for your patience while this page is still under construction.

By the time a case reaches the appellate stage, it has inevitably become long, complex and expensive, usually more of each than anyone imagined at the outset. If your case is heading to the Michigan Court of Appeals or Michigan Supreme Court, you are likely to be best served by someone who practices before those courts on a regular basis.

The vast majority of our clients are referred by other attorneys, many of whom first encountered an attorney as opposing counsel on appeal. Having seen their work and results firsthand, many attorneys across Michigan entrust their clients’ appeals to our team.

At Gentry Nalley, PLLC, founding attorney Kevin S. Gentry focuses his practice on appellate representation, primarily in Michigan Courts. Our other founding attorney, Heather Nalley, practices in both appellate and trial courts.

A message about appeals from Kevin S. Gentry

Welcome. If you are on this page, chances are you need an appellate attorney. Almost by definition, this means that you are a dissatisfied customer of our legal system; you didn’t get the result you wanted or, if you did, now the other side is appealing. Either way, by now your path through the legal system has probably been more difficult, time-consuming and resource-draining than you planned. We’ll try not to add to any of that.

What matters on appeal is often a lot different than what matters at trial. It is also often a lot more predictable. Some things are reversible errors, some things might be and many things aren’t. Most of our clients come to us via referrals from other attorneys. Even so, we still turn down more cases than we take, because we hate writing junk. If we think your case has a chance and is worth appealing, we’ll tell you. But if we don’t, we’ll tell you that too, and happily give you the names of other appellate specialists we respect so you can seek a second opinion.

(Actually, we’ll give you those either way, as we want you to be comfortable and shop around as much as you need to; hiring an appellate attorney is an important decision).

We don’t advertise (it took over a decade in practice before we relented and got a website), and we don’t do a very good job of selling ourselves because we don’t have to. We take the cases we believe have merit and think we can prevail in, and very often do.

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably found out firsthand that nothing is guaranteed in our legal system. All we can guarantee you is that if you would like to consult with us about your case, we’ll give you an honest assessment of where you are at and where we might be able to help you get to. We strongly believe that the attorney/client relationship only works if it is built on mutual honesty.

If that sounds like what you’re looking for, feel free to give us a call at 517-258-9769. Best of luck.
